Fast and Furious 8 plot
Vin Diesel shares 'Fast and Furious 8' unofficial poster through his Instargram account Vin Diesel/Universal Studios

Fast and Furious 8 is happening and this time Dominic Toretto and his gang will be chasing cars while exploring the streets of New York.

Actor and producer Vin Diesel recently shared the first poster of the highly anticipated movie and confirmed that the eighth instalment of the action thriller will premiere in 2017.

The 47-year-old action star has said that the upcoming movie will be from his friend Paul Walker, adding: "We're going to make the best movie you've ever seen."

Rumours have it that the plot of the movie will follow the story of Kurt Russell's character, Mr Nobody. The character was introduced in Furious 7.

In the upcoming movie, Dom and his crew will follow him to New York to unravel his story and this quest will bring new adventures for Toretto and his gang.

Mr Nobody helped Diesel's character Dom in capturing Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) in Furious 7. Statham is returning to reprise his role and it is assumed that Deckard will try to take revenge from Russell's character.

There is a big buzz that Eva Mendes may also return to reprise her role of the US customs agent Monica Fuentes. However, Universal Pictures is yet to confirm her casting. She appeared in the second sequel of the action movie franchise 2 Fast 2 Furious.

Mendes is currently enjoying motherhood with her nine-month-old daughter Esmeralda Amada.

The Rock Dwayne Johnson has also confirmed his character Luke Hobbs will return to F8. Hobbs played an important role by helping Toretto and his gang in their fight with the Shaw Brothers Owen and Deckard Shaw.

With the return of Statham, fans suspect that the Shaw Brothers will plan another deadly game against Dom and gang. In the sixth movie of the popular franchise, Owen Shaw was believed to be dead but he was later shown barely alive during the beginning of Furious 7.

It will be interesting to see how fans will like the movie as this will be the first Furious sequel without Walker who died in a car crash in 2013.

Fast and Furious 8 will premiere on 14 April, 2017.
