Samsung Galaxy Tab 3

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 users can finally experience Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on their phones. Devices with model number SM-T311 have just started receiving Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update with a firmware build number T311XXUAMK1.

The new official firmware is now available in France as an Over-The-Air (OTA) update as well as through Samsung KIES. Here are some details on the same:

Who is this guide for?

For users who missed the OTA update notification or were unable to access the update over Samsung KIES. This guide will help them install the update manually.

Pre-requisites

1. Users will have to start off by installing USB Drivers for Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 on the computer.

2. They will then have to enable USB Debugging Mode on the device. This can be done by going to Settings >> Developer Options.

3. It is very, very important to backup of all your important data before following any of the othe instructions in the guide.

4. The Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 should be factory unlocked. It should not be locked to any particular carrier.

5. You do not want the battery of your device dying out during the process. Ensure that your device more than 80 percent of battery life before you start the process.

6. It is worth noting that the Android 4.2.2 XXUAMK1 Jelly Bean firmware is compatible only with the 3G version of the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 (SM-T311).

If you do apply this method to any other variant, there is a good chance that it might brick the device. Users are urged to double check the model number of the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0. This can be done by going to Settings >> About Phone.

Step-by-step instructions to update to Android 4.2.2 XXUAMK1 Jelly Bean Firmware

Step 1: Users must first extract the Firmware zip file using an application like winrar or 7zip. This will result in them getting a .tar.md5 file and some other files.

Step 2: Open up the extraction application again and extract the Odin zip file and you will get Odin3 v3.07.exe along with few other files.

Step 3: Switch off Galaxy Tab 3 8.0.

Step 4: Boot the device into Download Mode by holding Volume Down, Home and Power buttons simultaneously until a construction Android robot icon with a warning triangle appears on screen. Press the Volume Up button to enter Download Mode.

Step 5: On the computer, users must run Odin as an Administrator.

Step 6: Connect the handset to the computer using USB cable while it is in Download Mode.

Step 7: Users must wait until the Odin application detects the device.

Step 8: Upon successfully connecting, the ID: COM box will turn to light blue with the COM port number. Apart from this, the successful connection will be indicated by a message that says 'Added'.

Note: If the Added message does not appear, then users will have to re-install USB drivers. They can also try changing the port used on the computer.

Step 9: Select the following files in Odin from extracted T311XXUAMK1 firmware folder:

Step 10: Users must now click the PDA button and select the .tar.md5 file.

Step 11: Click the Phone button. After this, select the file that has MODEM in its name. However, users should ignore this step if there is no such file.

Step 12: Click the CSC button and select file with CSC in its name. Ignore if there is no such file.

Step 13: Click the PIT button. After this, select the .pit file. However, Ignore this step if there is no such file.

Step 14: Users must then open up Odin and enable Auto Reboot and F. They must Reset Time checkboxes. They should also ensure that the Re-Partition checkbox was chosen only if a .pit file was chosen in the previous step.

Step 15: Verify if everything instructed from Step 7 to Step 13 is done correctly. After doing so, hit the Startbutton. The installation will start.

Step 16: Once the installation process is completed, the handset will restart. Right after this, you should see a PASS message with green background. It can be found in the left-most box at the very top of the Odin application.

Step 17: It is now safe for you to unplug the USB cable and disconnect your device from the computer.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 SM-T311 should be now updated with the Android 4.2.2 XXUAMK1 Jelly Bean official firmware. Interested in verifying this? Head over to Settings >> About Phone. Check the software version running on the device.

What to do if your handset is stuck at the booting animation after Step 10?

Then you're going to have to wipe the data. Go to recovery mode (press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons together) and choose 'Wipe data/Factory Reset'. Also choose 'Wipe Cache Partition' task before selecting reboot system now function.

Once you are in the recovery mode, use the Volume keys to navigate between options. The Power key must be used to select the option. Even though performing the wiping task will erase your device's internal memory data, it will not affect the external SD card data.
