According to a poll conducted by PollPosition, a majority of the Americans surveyed said they would rather buy shares of Google than Facebook.

As many as 45 percent of Americans expressed interest in Google shares and 23 percent opted for Facebook. The remaining 32 percent, it is understood, did not offer any opinion.

The poll question was: "If you had $1,000 to invest in the stock of Facebook or Google, which company's stock would you rather buy?"

The question was asked to approximately 1,000 people; the sample was drawn from both sexes and from across diverse races and parties. The polls were conducted in two manners - a scientific poll that reflected representative demographic sampling of the American people and an online poll that reflected the views of Internet voters.

The telephonic survey was conducted in January, 2012 and has a reported margin error of 3 percent.
