Grey's Anatomy season 12
Arizona tries to find legal solutions to stop Callie from taking Sofia to New York ABC

Grey's Anatomy season 12 is nearing its finale and it appears episode 22 will have plenty of emotional moments. Callie and Arizona are at loggerheads with each other in order to get custody of their daughter, Sofia.

Callie is moving to New York with her girlfriend and is planning to take her daughter with her but Arizona wants none of it, and is seeking legal help to get her daughter back. Kevin McKidd, who directed episode 22, has warned fans to prepare for a "very emotional and heart-wrenching" episode ahead of the courtroom drama.

"It was intense to shoot, and I think it's going to be really intense to watch. I think people are going to really respond to it. It's very emotional, very powerful. I mean, to fight over the custody of a child, for a parent, is probably one of the most [difficult] things they could have to do. Plus, the audience loves Callie. The audience loves Arizona. We want them both to be okay," he told TV Line.

The synopsis of the upcoming instalment reads:

"Callie and Arizona are at odds over Sofia's future, and Stephanie questions the status of her relationship with Kyle. Meanwhile, Alex and April work on a pregnant teen that is readmitted to Grey Sloan Memorial."

McKidd also hinted that the couple will try to reconcile at one point, but their lawyers will do massive damage to their relationship. "They do try to connect at a certain point, but the lawyers get in there and do their lawyering thing and cause damage, so [the ex-wives'] interaction is very charged. There are a lot of hurt feelings. They try to stay civil, but it's hard when things get thrown at you by a lawyer. Arizona especially, I think, really feels hard done in the courtroom."

Grey's Anatomy season 12 episode 22 will air on 5 May at 8/7pm CT on ABC network.
