Heartbreak in Platteville: Emma Jacob, 22, Found Dead After Vanishing Near 'Big M' Landmark

After hours of uncertainty and rising concern, 22-year-old Emma Jacob has tragically been found dead following a search that gripped the Platteville, Wisconsin community. The heartbreaking discovery comes amid another ongoing case in the state: the disappearance of graduate student Eliotte Heinz, raising fresh concerns about the safety of young women in the region.
The search for Emma began when her sister, Sydney Wiltsie, issued a plea on social media, urging locals to help locate her missing sibling. The two disappearances, both involving young women of the same age and occurring within days of each other and just hours apart geographically, have drawn growing attention online.

The Final Hours of Emma Jacob
Update: She has been found. At this time we ask you please respect our families privacy as we grieve the loss of our daughter, sister, and auntie. Thank you. My little sister Emma Jacob has been...
In a Facebook post, Sydney Wiltsie described the timeline and circumstances surrounding her sister's disappearance: 'My little sister Emma Jacob has been missing since around 9:30 this morning. Her last pinged location was near the mound, or the "big M" in Platteville, WI. Her car, phone, keys, and purse were all found there.'
She added that local police were involved and urged people in the Platteville area to remain alert and report any information.
Later, Sydney updated the post with devastating news: 'She has been found. At this time we ask you [to] please respect our family's privacy as we grieve the loss of our daughter, sister, and auntie.'
Online Calls for Vigilance
News of Emma's death first spread through smaller community Facebook groups and local scanner channels before gaining wider notice. A Reddit user summarised updates from social media and emergency reports, warning others to be cautious. They also pointed out the eerie overlap between Emma Jacob's disappearance and that of Eliotte Heinz, a graduate student from Viterbo University, missing since early Sunday morning in La Crosse.
'These areas are 2 hours apart. The girls are the same age. It's a weird coincidence or something related. Stay vigilant, ladies, and let your loved ones know!,' the user wrote.
Another Missing Student: Eliotte Heinz
Eliotte's mother, Amber Heinz, told Fox News Digital that her family became worried when they couldn't reach her on Sunday morning. 'We talk all the time. We talked to her that week. We were texting back and forth, but on Sunday morning, when we couldn't get a hold of her, we knew that something was going on,' she said.
Police have not connected the two cases, but the timing and proximity have led many to speculate about possible links or shared dangers.
Are These Just Tragic Accidents?
While no official cause of death has been confirmed in Emma Jacob's case, some online users believe her final location may point to an accidental fall, given the challenging terrain of the 'Big M' area. 'It happens every few years to these young college-aged kids. If they do find her there, I do believe this would be one of the first girls for it to happen to,' a Reddit commenter noted.
Tragically, Emma's death follows other recent cases involving missing university students. Just last month, the body of a UC Santa Cruz student was recovered from a local beach. In another incident in Virginia, a missing student was found dead after a car accident.
As communities across the US face a rise in disappearances among young adults, especially students, these cases serve as painful reminders for families and institutions to remain vigilant. For now, two Wisconsin families are left waiting: one with grief, the other with hope.
