French President Francois Hollande on Thursday (19 November) ordered an escalation of French airstrikes against ISIS targets in Iraq and Syria. A statement from the office of the president was issued after he met with senior cabinet ministers and military chiefs.

The statement says that "Francois Hollande gave the necessary instructions for the intensification of the military operations under way against Daesh in Syria as well as in Iraq."
