A fire broke out in a warehouse near Barcelona's El Prat Airport this afternoon, sending smoke billowing across the runway Twitter

Just one day after a terror attack at Las Ramblas, a fire broke out near Barcelona's El Prat Airport causing panic.

Smoke from a huge blaze in a warehouse in an industrial area called Zona Franca, was seen billowing across the runway after 5pm today. (18 August)

Black clouds of smoke were visible from the airport terminal. Witnesses posted images of the scene on social media, expressing concerns about a possible explosion.

Three fire engines and one helicopter took an hour to extinguish the blaze Mail Online reports.

Three runways were shut down causing delays to flights.

It is not known how the fire started or if there were any casualties.

Spain has been reeling after two terror attacks in Barcelona and nearby Cambrills killed 14 people and injured 130. Five terrorists were killed by police including Driss Oukabir, the driver of the van who was initially thought to be on the run.

Security staff at El Prat called off a strike over pay following the van attack.
