The Sony Xperia S can now be updated to Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) with the Android Open Kang Project (AOKP) ROM. Xperia S owners will now be able to taste the range of Jelly Bean features on their smartphone, but there are certain things that do not work.

Things that are not working/ bugs, courtesy Hack My Android:

  • Camera/ camcorder
  • Hardware acceleration is still buggy
  • Triple buffering
  • Hotspot is not stable

Requirements:

  • Back up all the data
  • Ensure the device has at least 60 percent battery charge
  • Enable USB debugging (to do so, browse to Settings > Applications > Development and ensure USB debugging option is checked)

To install AOKP Jelly Bean ROM on Xperia S:

  • Download the ROM zip file from XDA development page
  • Copy the zip file to the root folder of the device's SD card and boot into recovery mode
  • In recovery mode, navigate using the volume buttons and choose the options using Home button
  • Perform a Nandroid backup in recovery mode
  • Choose Wipe > Wipe data. Now make a Dalvik cache to avoid the Low on Memory issues
  • Navigate through the interface and choose Select Zip from SD Card and then choose the ROM zip file
  • After installation completes, flash the Gapps file and go back to choose Reboot in order to reboot the device

You have now installed Jelly Bean based AOKP ROM on Sony Xperia S
