iPhone 18 Pro Max Leak: Apple Smartphone To Weigh Over 240g, Feature Massive 5,200 mAh Battery
The latest iPhone 18 Pro Max leak hints that Apple might be betting that a little extra weight is easier to forgive than a dying battery.

Apple's next iPhone 18 Pro Max is being tipped for a slightly thicker body, a heavier build and a larger battery, according to leak reports published on Wednesday by MacRumors, which cited Weibo tipsters Ice Universe, Instant Digital and Digital Chat Station. If those claims hold up, the iPhone 18 Pro Max could arrive later this year as a more substantial device in every sense, with Apple apparently leaning into endurance rather than shaving off weight.
The latest claim builds on an earlier leak from November that said the iPhone 18 Pro Max would become the heaviest iPhone yet. That earlier report, also carried by MacRumors, said the handset would be slightly thicker than the iPhone 17 Pro Max and would weigh more than 240 grams, which would put it above the iPhone 14 Pro Max and make it the weightiest model in the line so far.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max Leak Points To A Heavier Handset
The newest detail is small on paper but telling. Ice Universe, described by MacRumors as an often accurate leaker, claimed the iPhone 18 Pro Max will measure 8.8mm thick, up from 8.75mm on the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
That difference is tiny, almost fussy, but smartphone design rarely moves in dramatic leaps any more. Fractions of a millimetre can be the whole story when a company is trying to fit in a larger battery or rework internal hardware without touching screen size. In this case, Apple is not expected to alter the display, with the iPhone 18 Pro Max said to keep the same 6.9 inch panel as the current model.

According to Ice Universe, the iPhone 18 Pro Max will be 8.8 mm thick, but the increase will be small compared to last year's model.

The weight claim carries more immediate punch. Instant Digital said last year that the device would weigh over 240 grams, and MacRumors said that would make it the heaviest iPhone since the iPhone 14 Pro Max. That does not sound like much until it is in a pocket or balanced in one hand on a train home. A premium phone can feel reassuringly solid right up to the moment it starts feeling like a brick.
Even so, the trade-off may be one many buyers are willing to accept. Apple has spent years navigating the familiar tug of war between elegance and battery life, and leaks around this model suggest the company may be inching towards the less glamorous but more useful side of that argument. Thinness looks good in marketing images. Battery stamina tends to matter more after a year of ownership.
Why The iPhone 18 Pro Max Leak Centres On Battery Life
The most obvious explanation for the added thickness is the battery. Digital Chat Station has claimed the iPhone 18 Pro Max will carry a battery in the 5,100 to 5,200 mAh range, compared with 5,088 mAh in the eSIM version of the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Taken alone, that is not a dramatic leap. Still, in a market where annual hardware gains are often measured in careful increments, even a modest increase matters if it delivers meaningfully longer daily use. It also fits the broader picture painted by the leaks, which suggest Apple is not chasing the lightest possible flagship this time around.
MacRumors also said the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to launch later this year with a possibly smaller Dynamic Island, Apple's C2 modem, a simplified Camera Control and an upgraded main camera with a variable aperture. Those features, combined with the larger battery claim, help explain why the phone may be getting thicker instead of slimmer.
None of it is confirmed yet, and that caveat matters. Every detail here comes from leakers rather than Apple, which means it should all be taken with caution until the company says otherwise. Still, the shape of the rumour is becoming harder to ignore. If these reports are right, the iPhone 18 Pro Max may end up feeling almost unfashionably hefty by modern standards, but perhaps that is the point. In a market obsessed with devices that disappear into the hand, Apple may be preparing one that announces itself the moment you pick it up.
