Kolkata, who have managed just two wins from their seven matches so far, need to find some form and momentum soon, if they still harbour hopes of defending the title. Trevor Bayliss' men are currently on a three-match losing streak; the most recent being a five-wicket defeat at home to Mumbai Indians on Wednesday. Morgan has performed well on a regular basis in the IPL this season but his team has failed to cross the line and get points on the board.
Punjab, on the other hand, have won four of their seven games thus far and could move up to third in the IPL table, if they triumph today. Darren Lehmann's side are on a two-match winning run and beat Delhi Daredevils by five wickets with three overs to spare at the Feroz Shah Kotla on Tuesday. Captain Adam Gilchrist has failed with the bat so far but South African David Miller has emerged as the franchise's standout performer in recent games.
Of the previous 10 meetings between the Knight Riders and Kings XI, both have won five matches a piece. In the reverse fixture at Mohali 10 days ago, Punjab won a thriller, defending 157 by a slender margin of four runs.
