Nine Japanese porn stars have raised thousands of dollars to help raise awareness of HIV and prevent Aids by taking part in a "Boob Aid" charity event.

The adult movie actresses spent several hours with fans touching their breasts in exchange for money.

According to the organisers, more than 5 million Yen ($50,000, £28,846) has been raised. The exact sum is yet to be announced.

The event, which took place over the weekend in Tokyo, is part of the 24-hour campaign "Stop! AIDS".

However Boob Aid is nothing new for Japanese people as the event has already occurred 11 times since its launch in 2003.

Porn star Iku Sakuragi told news agency AFP, "I joined Boob Aid for the first time and I didn't know this was an event thousands of people would come to. I think we should continue this kind of activity."

The girl added she was very happy to see her fans throughout the event.

Rina Serina told the Tokyo Sports newspaper before the event, "I'm really looking forward to lots of people fondling my boobs. But I would be very happy if you would please be delicate.

"I never thought my boobs could contribute to society," she added.

According to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, nearly 23,000 people were known to be infected with HIV or to have developed AIDS at the end of 2013 in Japan.
