John Daly has never been one to shy away from the spotlight. In 2025, the 59-year-old golfer continues to command headlines, whether on the green, behind the bar, or even in front of the camera. But this year, it's not just Daly making waves. His son, John Daly II, is carving his own legacy.

Back to Basics: Daly's Long-Time Chipping Drill

In a sport often dominated by power, it's easy to forget the importance of finesse. Yet Daly has long credited his consistency to a short-game exercise that prioritises contact over distance. As detailed by My Golf Spy, Daly's one-armed chipping drill focuses on using the lead arm to develop cleaner strikes around the green.

Daly recommends hitting ten to twenty one-handed chips before a round. This, he says, helps isolate faults and fine-tune rhythm. It's a drill he has used for over two decades and one he maintains as part of his pre-round routine. For those expecting Daly's style to be defined purely by brute strength, this focus on fundamentals may come as a surprise.

Drinks, Branding and a Bar in Nashville

Even away from the course, Daly's lifestyle has drawn attention. In a recent interview, Daly shared that he can consume up to 60 of his own canned cocktails in a single day. These are marketed under the name 'Good Boy'. The vodka line includes lemonade, tea and other non-carbonated options.

This drink brand features prominently in Daly's new Nashville bar, which will also host the premiere party for 'Happy Gilmore 2'. Daly has a speaking cameo in the film, which debuts July 25. According to Sportskeeda, Daly teased fans with promises of laughter and revealed that his character in the film would be 'living in a garage'.

A New Champion in the Family

The biggest golf-related development for the Daly family this year came not from John, but from John Daly II. The 21-year-old University of Arkansas senior captured the 119th Southern Amateur championship at The Blessings Golf Club, finishing 10-under par with a five-stroke lead. MSN reports that Daly II's final-round 68 was enough to outpace a competitive field.

He previously won the Columbia Spring Invitational earlier this year and now ranks among the top collegiate golfers. Though yet to earn a PGA Tour card, Daly II made his professional debut on the Korn Ferry Tour this summer.

Meanwhile, Essentially Sports notes that Daly II acknowledges his father's legacy but prefers to 'make his own path'. He also shared that his dad advised him to 'do the opposite' when it comes to off-course behaviour.

Still Swinging — And Celebrating

From the practice range to a movie set, and from the vodka shelf to the trophy stand, 2025 is shaping up to be a defining year for the Daly family. As the elder Daly keeps sharing lessons from his unique career, his son is picking up trophies and forging his own story.

And while there's no sign of John Daly slowing down, his latest chapter might be the most multifaceted yet, filled with drills, drinks, a film debut and pride in his rising star of a son.
