La Liga side Real Betis are considering signing a striker in the next transfer window and one of their prime targets is Manchester City player John Guidetti, Spanish reports claim.

The 21-year-old striker moved to the Etihad Stadium in 2008 after impressing former manager Sven-Goran Eriksson but he has failed to make an impact in the first team due to several injuries.

Guidetti is now back in the team but with Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Negredo, Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic already fighting for just two places in Manuel Pellegrini's line-up, he is reportedly considering move away to play more regularly.

"I want to play football. Whether that will be at Manchester City or somewhere else, I do not yet know. Currently I am training hard and fighting. January is the time to show what I can do," Guidetti recently told TV4.

Spanish website El Desmarque claims that Betis want to take advantage of the Swede's lack of opportunities at Manchester City to get him on loan until the end of the season. According to the reports, Guidetti is on a shortlist of three players that also includes Liverpool summer signing Iago Aspas and the Ecuadorian Felipe Caicedo.

El Desmarque adds that Guidetti was very close to signing for Betis last summer, but he finally stayed at the Etihad due to a virus that caused some problems in his right leg.

Betis are currently on the bottom of the table in La Liga and they are desperately trying to sign new players in January to avoid dropping to the second Division. Recently they sacked manager Pepe Mel and new coach Juan Carlos Garrido is keen for more competition in his squad.

Manchester City have already loaned Guidetti to several clubs during the last few seasons including Burnley, Sweden's Brommapojkarna and Feyenoord, where he scored 20 goals in 23 games in the 2011-12 season. In the last few weeks the Sweden international has also been linked with Stoke and Sunderland.
