Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has hinted that he could speak more openly about the club's financial misconduct case if its appeal succeeds, following a commanding 3-0 Premier League victory over Liverpool at Anfield.

The Italian made the remarks after Sunday's match on 11 October 2026, responding to questions about whether the uncertainty surrounding City's financial-rule breaches had diminished his enjoyment of the victory.

His comments come as the league leaders challenge an independent commission's findings that the club breached Premier League financial regulations.

Maresca Hints at Speaking After City's Appeal

Maresca insisted that the ongoing controversy had not prevented him from enjoying an important victory against one of City's biggest rivals.

'You cannot imagine how happy I am,' he told reporters when asked whether the appeal needed to conclude before he could fully celebrate.

The manager explained that his immediate responsibility was preparing his players and winning matches rather than becoming distracted by disciplinary proceedings. He then suggested he might discuss the controversy more openly if Manchester City's challenge succeeds.

'Hopefully I can speak about this situation when we win the appeal,' Maresca said. His remarks were highlighted in an X post by football transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano on 12 October.

However, Maresca did not specify what he intended to reveal or suggest that he possessed previously undisclosed evidence.

The comments nevertheless offered another indication of his confidence in the club's position during the ongoing dispute.

Manchester City's Financial Verdict Remains Under Appeal

The Premier League announced on 29 September that an independent commission had found Manchester City guilty of numerous breaches of its financial regulations.

The findings concerned financial reporting and compliance with league rules across nine seasons between 2009/10 and 2017/18. The commission upheld allegations involving inaccurate financial information, commercial arrangements and failures to cooperate with the league's investigation.

Manchester City have rejected the findings and continue to maintain their innocence. The club lodged its appeal on Thursday, 1 October, arguing that the commission's conclusions contained material errors of law, principle and fact.

The appeal process remains ongoing, and no final punishment has been confirmed. Potential consequences could include financial penalties or sporting sanctions, depending on the outcome of the proceedings.

Maresca previously expressed trust in City's leadership during a press conference on 9 October, before the Liverpool fixture. His subsequent remarks at Anfield therefore reinforced an existing position rather than introducing a new allegation or disclosure.

Liverpool Victory Strengthens City's Position

City's performance against Liverpool provided a significant boost amid the uncertainty surrounding the club.

Erling Haaland, Jérémy Doku and Rayan Cherki scored as City secured a convincing away victory. Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch was sent off before the visitors took control of the contest.

The result preserved City's perfect Premier League start and strengthened their position at the top of the table.

Maresca also urged his players to create their own positive atmosphere by concentrating on performances rather than external criticism.

For supporters, the victory offered encouragement despite questions about the club's future. However, the appeal could still have substantial implications for Manchester City's sporting ambitions.

Maresca's confidence remains unmistakable, but whether he eventually speaks further about the case depends on a legal process whose outcome has yet to be determined.
