The Album of the Year nominees instead feature Zach Top's 'Ain't In It For My Health,' Ella Langley's 'Dandelion,' Kacey Musgraves' 'Middle of Nowhere,' Parker McCollum's self-titled project, and Luke Combs' 'The Way I Am.'

Langley leads the field with nine nominations overall, while Musgraves and Miranda Lambert also feature heavily across multiple categories.

Moroney was not shut out entirely. She received two CMA nominations, including a Female Vocalist of the Year nod and a Song of the Year nomination as a co-writer of Beautiful Things.

Still, for an artist headlining a major arena tour and riding one of the year's biggest commercial runs, two nominations felt underwhelming to several observers.

The eligibility window for this cycle ran from 1 July 2025 through 30 June 2026, so Cloud 9 squarely qualified.

Final nominees are determined by 7,083 CMA voting-eligible professional members, a body made up of artists, industry staff, touring personnel, publicists, producers and other full-time country music professionals who pay an annual fee and undergo qualification checks.

Voting unfolds in three rounds. Members submit one nomination per category in round one, the top 20 advance, then members select five per category in round two to produce the final five-strong ballot now public.

A final round of voting will decide winners when the 60th Annual CMA Awards air live from Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on 18 November, hosted by Wilson.

Industry commentary suggests the omission reflects a crowded field rather than any loss of favour. Variety noted it 'seems less likely that the widely acclaimed Moroney has fallen out of favour with the country music intelligentsia than that 2026 has just offered an embarrassment of riches for the genre.'

Nothing is confirmed yet so everything should be taken with a grain of salt regarding internal CMA deliberations, but the professional voting structure means thousands of country music industry peers determined the shortlist.
