'The Kids Don't Want To Dance': Miley's New Track 'Bass Persuades' Falls From Spotify in Days
Miley Cyrus's new single 'Bass Persuades' debuted at No. 23 on Spotify's Global 200 but quickly dropped off, while maintaining strong positions on US iTunes and Apple Music

Miley's new single 'Bass Persuades' reportedly dropped out of Spotify's Global 200 within three days of its release on Thursday, 3 September, after opening at No. 23 and sliding to No. 123 a day later.
The track is the 33-year-old singer's first release for Atlantic Records and leads her forthcoming album of the same name.
'Bass Persuades' is built around a dance-pop refrain that repeats 'the kids don't want to dance', while its music video shows Miley moving from a bar into a street dance sequence.
According to the chart positions cited by the source article, it remained near the top of US iTunes and inside Apple Music's global ranking.
'Bass Persuades' Opens Miley's Atlantic Records Era
The single begins a new phase for Miley after five years with Columbia Records, where she released her two most recent albums, Endless Summer Vacation and Something Beautiful.
'Bass Persuades' is also the first track from her 10th studio album, which is scheduled for release on 18 September.
The release also marks her first new single since moving labels, placing the track at the centre of both a new album campaign and the next phase of her recording career with Atlantic Records.
Its launch was accompanied by a music video directed by photographer Mert Alas. The visual places Miley inside a New York poker club before following the performance outdoors, where the dancing continues in the street.
The track's lyrics urge listeners to put down their phones and join the party, with 'the kids don't want to dance' returning through the chorus. Available chart positions, however, show mixed early results across platforms.
On Spotify's Global 200, the track debuted at No. 23, fell to No. 123 and then left the chart. At the same time, it held a high position on US iTunes and remained inside Apple's global ranking.
'Bass Persuades' Follows the Scale of 'Flowers'
For context, 'Flowers', the lead single from 2023's Endless Summer Vacation, set several Spotify records. The single became a major global hit and later earned Miley her first Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.
On Spotify, 'Flowers' became the fastest song at the time to reach 100 million streams. It later became the fastest song to reach 1 billion streams, hitting that milestone in 112 days.
IFPI named it the world's biggest-selling single of 2023 across digital formats, including streaming and downloads.
Her 2025 album Something Beautiful debuted at No. 4 on the US Billboard 200.
The early chart pattern for 'Bass Persuades' arrives shortly before the album's release. Its departure from Spotify's global chart contrasted with the iTunes and Apple Music positions cited at the time, indicating differing early results across platforms.
'Bass Persuades' Leads Into Album Release and Live Dates
The new music also arrives alongside a wider change in how the singer presents herself publicly. Miley is promoting her new era under the mononym 'Miley', dropping 'Cyrus' from her current professional branding.
Her father, country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, has publicly supported the decision and compared it to other stars widely known by a single name, including Cher.
Miley has performed live only selectively in recent years, but she has announced two concerts at the Hollywood Bowl on 16 and 18 October.
Those dates follow the release of the Bass Persuades album, due in stores and on streaming services on 18 September.
