A search is under way in Manchester for two young sisters who went missing after going to a busy park in Manchester close to their home.

Liana Boyd, 11, and her sister Teigan, eight, have been missing since around about 8pm on 22 July after playing in Whitworth Park in Fallowfield.

Their mother called the police after searching for them in the park without success.

The sisters are white with brown hair. Liana is described as being about 5ft 2in tall.

Liana was last wearing a brown cardigan, black top and black leggings while Teigan was last wearing denim shorts and a green top.

Chief Supt Rob Potts said: "Clearly, the family is fraught with worry that these girls have spent the night away from home. We have launched a police investigation where we are pulling out all the stops to find them safe and well.

"We are in the early, critical stages of our inquiries and we would urge anyone with information to call us as soon as possible.

"Whitworth Park is surrounded by busy roads and last night's weather would have meant that the park was busy. We need anyone who may have seen the girls to call us as this would be vital to our inquiries."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 101 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
