West Ham United's Ravel Morrison has been charged by the Football Association after the midfielder posted 'homophobic' remarks on his Twitter page.

The controversial 19-year-old, who joined the Hammers from Manchester United in January, claims he was responding to racist abuse from disgruntled United fans.

Morrison, who is yet to make his West Ham debut, faces a fine from the FA after he called someone a 'f*****' on the social networking site.

The highly-rated youngster has since claimed he was responding to racial abuse calling him a 'black f*****' and a 'crackhead', by another Twitter user.

"'West Ham United's Ravel Morrison has been charged under FA Rule E3 for use of abusive and/or insulting words including a reference to a person's sexual orientation. Morrison has until 4pm on 17 February 2012 to respond to the charge," an FA statement said.
