New update rolling out for Windows Phone 8.1 devices. WMPU

A new firmware update is currently making its way to devices running Windows Phone 8.1.

Earlier in August, Microsoft was rumoured to enable the Static IP in Windows Phone. A leaked documentation revealed 'Enable Static IP' option, which can be enabled by OEM partners from Settings>> Wi-Fi>>advanced. However, the advanced option was then not available under Settings>> Wi-Fi.

It now appears that the latest update for Windows Phone 8.1 adds Static IP settings. Navigate to Settings>> Wi-Fi>> static ip and then tap on it to enable, reports NPU.

The update has confirmed to be available on Lumia 625. Also, Lumia 925 and Lumia 525 seem to have received the update, affirms WMPU. It is rolling out to Windows Phone 8.1 smartphones running Lumia Cyan update as well as for devices running Developer Preview version.

The Static IP feature is an important feature for them who use this as a security measure.

Earlier, some Windows Phone handsets were able to support this feature whereas, others failed to do so. But now with the latest update, all Windows Phone 8.1 users should be able to enjoy the feature.

In other related news, Microsoft is rumoured to release Windows Phone 9 Preview for Developers in January, 2015. The new Windows software is expected to hit all the Windows Phone 8 devices, including Lumia 520. Split-screen multitasking and Actionable notifications are said to be the key features of the update.
