Overview

Three-time Canada Masters champion Djokovic starts his campaign after a disappointing time in the recently concluded 2016 Wimbledon championships where he crashed out in the third round after being shocked by Sam Querrey.

With Andy Murray, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal withdrawing from the tournament, Djokovic comes to Canada as the overwhelming favourite. He holds the all-time record for Masters 1000 Series titles with 29, winning nine of his last 15 Masters events.

The 29-year-old will look to use this encounter as an opportunity to get into some much needed form ahead of more important clashes.

Muller has had a mixed season so far, his best results coming in the semi-finals of the Newport ATP tournament, and the quarter-final of the Aegon championships. The greatest strength of the big man from Luxembourg is his serve, but Djokovic's forte is his return.

The World No 37 has not had the best of times against Djokovic in the past, losing both his encounters.
