South African athlete Oscar Pistorius, who faces murder charges over the fatal shooting of his girlfriend, has been granted bail after a four-day hearing.

Magistrate Desmond Nair said the state had not made a case that he would flee, or that he had a violent character He also set bail conditions.

Mr Pistorius must deposit 1m rand (£73,823) in cash and guarantees, he must hand over his passport, avoid his home in Pretoria and report to a police station between 07:00 and 13:00 every Monday and Friday.

In his two-hour reading of the decision, Mr. Nair said the recently removed chief investigating officer's evidence was weak and "tarnished." At the same time, he said it doesn't account for the whole state case. Mr. Pistorius then left the courtroom with a closed smile as his brother led his family in a prayer.
