Pretty Little Liars season 7 returned with the series' last remaining episodes on Tuesday (18 April), nine months after its mid-season hiatus. The episode continues the terror of A.D., while the liars – Emily, Spencer, Hanna, Alison and Aria– remain clueless about their tormentor.
The show began right after the events of episode 10 where Spencer was shot and Toby was involved in life-threatening car accident. In the mid-season premiere episode, the former couple survived their injuries caused by separate incidents, but it appears Toby's fiancée, Yvonne (who was also in the car during the accident) may not survive as she remains in a medically induced coma.
Her situation has raised hope for Spoby fan as Spencer takes this as an opportunity for the couple to get back together.
Keegan Allen, who plays Toby, weighs in on the couple's future as friends but not as lovers.
"It is a moment that both these characters sort of acknowledge the insanity that has befallen upon them over their lifetimes in Rosewood and why are they not able to leave," he told ET Online. "It's such an amazing moment for both these characters to recognize that they are stuck in this whirlwind and they don't know that they are victims of writing in a TV show. But it is a really special and I think it does nod to their continued friendship."
In episode 10, Spencer and Toby shared one last goodbye kiss before the turn of events. Allen has ruled out any such kiss in the future of the series by saying: "I can honestly say that there is not another Spoby kiss." Apart from the romantic confusion, Spencer is also battling with the bitter truth of her parentage.
The Freeform thriller will return with episode 12 titled These Boots Were Made for Stalking on 25 April, and will focus on Jenna's mysterious mission against the girls. She is expected to trouble the girls for the decapitation of the Noel Kahn.
The official synopsis for the upcoming episode reads:
Pretty Little Liars season 7 airs every Tuesday on Freeform.
