Ray J Fears He Has Only Months Left to Live as Doctor Warns His Heart Has Become 'Black'
The American rapper doubts he'll live till 2027.

Fans were shocked after Ray J revealed he fears his life may be cut short after doctors warned that his heart is critically damaged. The 45-year-old rapper, whose real name is William Ray Norwood Jr., shared the update from the US in late January 2026.
He said his health crisis followed a recent hospital stay that nearly killed him. According to Ray J, years of substance abuse placed extreme strain on his body, leading to a sudden and severe decline that he can no longer ignore.
Ray J's Near-Fatal Hospitalisation
Earlier this month, Ray J was rushed to a hospital in Las Vegas after suffering heart pains and severe pneumonia, as reported by TMZ. The incident unfolded quickly and left doctors concerned about his chances of survival. After being discharged, Ray J told fans he had come dangerously close to dying.
During an Instagram update on 27 January 2026, he said he had 'almost died' and credited prayers and support for keeping him alive. The episode marked one of the most serious moments in his ongoing Ray J health struggles. It also followed a similar pneumonia battle in 2021, when he required oxygen support.
Heart Turned Black and Severe Pneumonia
Ray J later disclosed that doctors told him his heart is functioning at only 25%. He described the damage in stark terms, saying his heart had effectively turned 'black.' The phrase was used to explain how years of heavy drinking and drug use weakened his heart muscle over time.
In a video shared on 25 January 2026, Ray J admitted his health was 'not OK' as he continued recovering from pneumonia. The lung infection placed additional stress on his already failing heart. Medical professionals warned that the combination of heart failure and respiratory illness made his condition especially dangerous.
Ray J Admits 'He F***** Up'
Speaking candidly during a livestream, Ray J accepted responsibility for his condition. He said he had underestimated the impact of his lifestyle and believed his body could handle excess.
'I f***** up,' he admitted, referring to years of alcohol and drug abuse.
Ray J explained that he regularly drank several bottles of alcohol a day and took large amounts of Adderall. He said he felt invincible at the time, but now understands that the damage has shortened his life.
Rapper Doubts He'll Live Till 2027
Ray J said doctors have warned him that his outlook is grim. During the 27 January livestream, he stated bluntly that he does not expect to live until 2027. He stressed that the comment was based on medical advice rather than pessimism.
According to Ray J, doctors told him the long-term damage to his heart has limited treatment options. He said the warning forced him to confront the reality of his Ray J heart condition. Despite this, he expressed a desire to stay focused and make changes while time remains.
Ray J Not Alone in His Health Battle
Throughout the crisis, Ray J said his family has stepped in to support him. He thanked his parents, Willie and Sonja Norwood, as well as his sister Brandy, for helping manage his care and expenses. He also revealed plans to travel to Haiti in a last attempt to find treatment that could extend his life.
As of press time, Ray J continues to recover at home, facing an uncertain future shaped by years of excess and a sudden, life-threatening wake-up call.
