Rihanna has released a teaser to the video of her new song Sledgehammer and announced that it will be part of the soundtrack for the film Star Trek Beyond.

The pop singer posted the teaser video on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, which featured images of what looks to be the USS Enterprise and ends with a photo of RiRi complete with alien markings on her face. There are also a few clips from the movie itself.

She confirmed that the full video would be premiered on 27 June, 8am ET (12pm GMT).

According to The Verge, the Shut Up And Drive hit maker started work on Sledgehammer back in 2014 going by a tweet she posted at the time stating: "You're just another brick and I'm a sledgehammer #barz."

The Barbadian singer-songwriter seems to be quite the Trekkie. Aside from her single that will be part of the film, she also launched a line of Star Trek-inspired sunglasses in collaboration with Dior in May. She claimed her collection was inspired by Lieutenant Commander La Forge from the film and TV franchises.

Screen Rant reported that Paramount has also released the names of other songs from the soundtrack and fans can pre-order the album on Amazon. However, the soundtrack will only be available on 29 June, following the release of the movie.

JJ Abrams-directed Star Trek Beyond is expected to release on 22 July and will feature the late Anton Yelchin (27) who died in a freak car accident on 19 June. He played Chekov in the movie, alongside Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Idris Elba and John Cho.
