Stephenie Meyer believes she may be to blame for Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart's relationship running into trouble. The 39-year-old author, whose books were made into the popular Twilight film franchise starring Pattinson and Stewart, feels the young couple's personal life was subject to far too much media scrutiny.

Pattinson and Stewart play lead characters Edward Cullen and Bella Swan and, as in the film, the two are a couple in real life as well. Unfortunately for them, their personal lives have been anything but

Twilight author Stephenie Meyer admits she feels guilty about Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart's relationship problems. Meyer believes the pair, who played the role of Edward Cullen and Bella Swan, respectively, in the vampire-themed fantasy film, has been subject to enormous pressure by the media.

"Here's the thing: there are some actors who are looking to be world famous, to be that household name, and although they might discover that there are a lot of negative things involved in that, it's what they want," she told the Times, "But that doesn't apply to Kristen and Rob. That's what makes it kind of ironic and tragic."

The 39-year-old author added that the two had to face the press as she stayed away from it.

"I just don't think they enjoy the parts [of fame] that other people would. And I totally get that, because it would not be my thing either," Meyer added, "At the same time - and this is where the guilt comes from - it's created this nice, peaceful place for me. They took all of my heat, which I feel bad about. If they had the choice, I've no idea if they'd even do Twilight again. I just don't know. I think this has all come at a heavy price."

Pattinson has shed his Twilight vampire image and is currently working in Australia on a thriller film, The Rover. The 22-year-old actress, whose relationship with Pattinson has been strained after she was caught cheating with married director Rupert Sanders last August, is reportedly planning for a special romantic night once he returns.

"Kristen's got a very special night planned for Rob when he gets back. She wants to surprise him by waiting in the backseat of a limo at the airport. It's rare for celeb couples to do that because it doubles the chances of a security issue. So he'll be really surprised when he gets in that limo," a source told OK Magazine, "Rob has a huge group of friends who are all dying to take him out, but Kristen's told them to back off until she's had some time alone."

The insider added that Stewart "told him she wants him all to herself in the first 24 hours he's back. He'll be jet-lagged of course, but she's got a relaxing night planned with a bottle of wine, pizza, and the two of them. That's all they both want."
