Convicted Killer Who Travelled 1,000 Miles To Murder Ex's Girlfriend Is Now Looking for Pen-Pals

Sakiyna Thompson, 32, the New York woman convicted of first-degree murder over the 2022 killing of 23-year-old Kayla Hodgson in Florida, is now seeking pen-pals from prison. Thompson was sentenced last year to life behind bars without the possibility of parole after travelling 1,000 miles to confront her ex-boyfriend's new girlfriend.

Sakiyna Thompson's Prison Profile

The latest development comes after Thompson created a profile on Wire of Hope, a site that connects inmates with people on the outside. The website says it allows prisoners to 'escape the daily monotony and darkness, feel human again, appreciated, and sometimes even loved'.

On her page, Thompson describes herself as a proud mother of one who spends her time reading and making crafts. She also says she is a 'BIG FOODIE' and that music is 'a form of therapy'.

Before her incarceration, Thompson says she was a nail technician and cake maker based in New York. She writes that those interests allowed her to express herself creatively while connecting with people.

'Now, I am looking forward to building genuine connections, sharing positive energy, and continuing to grow through this chapter of my life,' Thompson wrote. She added that she was following 'a path of faith and hope', while believing in restoration, personal growth and a brighter future.

Thompson ended her profile by saying she 'looks forward to hearing from you pen-pal'.

Sakiyna Thompson and the Kayla Hodgson Killing

For context, the profile follows a murder case in which prosecutors argued that jealousy was behind Thompson's journey to Florida. The source says Hodgson was dating Thompson's ex-boyfriend and had also blocked Thompson on Instagram.

Thompson travelled from New York to Florida and, according to the source, used a fake Uber account to reach Hodgson's home. She was wearing gloves and attempted to disguise herself with a COVID-19 mask and a wide-brimmed hat.

She arrived at the South Florida apartment at about 5am and stabbed Hodgson dozens of times. Hodgson worked as a waitress, and police found her body at the home in Tamarac on 13 July 2022.

Thompson later claimed she had blacked out and told the court in Fort Lauderdale that she acted in self-defence. She was two months pregnant at the time and said Hodgson had taken a glass from a hookah and slashed her across the stomach.

'I was walking in blood. I killed her because she took the glass from the hookah and slashed me across my stomach. I felt like she was trying to hurt my baby,' Thompson said.

Her attorneys argued that Thompson did not start the fight. Prosecutors, however, described her as 'jealous and insecure' and argued that she had gone to Florida intending to murder her romantic rival.

First-Degree Murder Conviction and Life Sentence

The case also included Thompson's admission that she discarded her bloodied outfit, changed into Hodgson's clothes and cleaned some of the crime scene. A jury deliberated for one hour before convicting her of first-degree murder last year.

Thompson was subsequently sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. Before sentencing, Hodgson's relatives addressed the court and described the lasting impact of her death.

Her cousin Melanie John said, 'What she did was wicked and evil and a person like her, it's important they never see the light of day again.'

Another cousin, Alisha Mitchell, said, 'I feel like I can finally start some type of healing. It will never be the same, we will forever miss her. The way she died, it will never really sit right with us. At least the person responsible is being held accountable.'
