PS3 titles to loose online support gran turismo 5

In what turns out to be disappointing news for PS3 players, Sony will discontinue online features for several games of its current generation console.

While some games have already lost support, several more titles will lose it sometime around mid-2014. Gamers will not be able to use the online features of MAG, SOCOM: Special Forces and SOCOM: Confrontation after 28th January 2014 as their online modes will not be supported.

This means that players of MAG and SOCOM: Special Forces will no longer be able to play the game, since both of them do not have an offline mode.

Gran Turismo 5, Resistance: Fall of Man, Resistance 2, and Resistance 3, will see their support cut starting 10 May, 2014. This includes all online features as well as online gameplay. Players will be left with nothing but the single-player modes and campaigns of the respective titles.

Gaming Blot believes that the online discontinuation is being done so that more and more people will drop their older consoles and games in favour of next-gen consoles and titles.

A more logical assumption is that these games are rather old and have a very small player base since most gamers have moved to newer and more improved games like Gran Turismo 6 and games from the Killzone franchise.

Also, maintaining online servers for games that have a small population of players makes no financial sense for the companies involved.

Below is a list of previously decommissioned PS3 titles, according to Sony.

FORMULA ONE CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
