If there is a time for multimillionaire Robert 'Bobby' Edwards to prove a lot of people wrong, that would be now. This was after the Squatty Potty creator was charged for allegedly buying multiple items of child sex abuse material between 2021 and 2025.

In a release by the US Attorney's Office for the District of Utah, Edwards was indicted by a federal grand jury on 10 February. He was formally arrested two days later in Washington County, Utah.

Edwards entered a plea of not guilty and was remanded to the US Marshal Service by US Magistrate Judge Paul Kohler in St George. It was mentioned in the release that the Squatty Potty creator received multiple images of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

It was in March 2021 when an FBI agent went undercover and joined a shady group chat that traded child sexual abuse material. In that chat, there was a room where a collection of indecent content was streamed on a main screen. Among the users present was Edwards, the New York Post reported.

To authenticate whether the person viewing the stream was Edwards, agents checked the IP address. Aside from that, they also compared photos of the millionaire to the Zoom profile being used during the screening.

Suspicious Transactions Ratted Edwards Out

Moreover, the FBI looked into the purchasing activities of Edwards. In May 2025, they discovered that the Squatty Potty founder purchased child sexual abuse material using his PayPal account. They also added that the transactions were flagged as suspicious activity.

Compounding Edwards' case was when agents executed a search warrant at his home in November. After confiscating his mobile phone, authorities found multiple photos and videos of child sexual abuse material. Further, more offensive photos and videos were found on other devices at his residence.

Agents claim that some of the materials found were downloaded only a few weeks earlier. Despite the mounting evidence collected against him, Edwards maintains that he is not guilty.

Edwards' Shady Explanation

When questioned about why he was in possession of the child sexual abuse material, Edwards responded by saying he had no recollection of viewing child pornography, The Salt Lake Tribune reported.

Further, he added that he was addicted to methamphetamine and was undergoing treatment. He also mentioned that he was able to afford the treatment through money he made from Squatty Potty and Bitcoin.

Looking at his past records, Edwards has had drug-related cases in the past. One of them happened in November 2023 when he pleaded guilty to drug-related offences in Utah's 5th District Court.

The sudden turn of events for Edwards is unfortunate. He made his fortune with Squatty Potty, something that Robert and his mother, Judy Edwards, came up with.

Judy had constipation problems and doctors advised her to use a footstool to help raise her knees while on the toilet. Robert saw it as a business opportunity, eventually designing a simple white plastic footstool that could be tucked under a toilet.

More on Previous Venture

With Squatty Potty being a hit, a deal was closed with Shark Tank investor Lori Greiner in 2014. Aterian Inc. purchased Squatty Potty in 2021 for £14 million (£10.34 million). As of 2022, there have reportedly been more than 8 million stools sold.

'Now everyone is like, "Why didn't I think of that?"' Edwards said in a CNBC feature. 'I have proven a lot of people wrong, and it's felt really good.'

Edwards made a valid point highlighting his Squatty Potty brainchild. But with mounting legal problems tied to alleged child sexual abuse material purchases, he now needs to prove a lot of people wrong again before he can also feel really good once more.
