Motorola Moto X 2013
AT&T-driven Motorola Moto X 2013 is being seeded the Android 5.1 update in US Motorola

The Android 5.1 OS update is now available for users of AT&T-driven original Moto X smartphones in the US.

Announcing the roll-out, Motorola has said that users can check for an over-the-air (OTA) notification or manually search for the Android 5.1 OS update and download it.

The new firmware upgrade bears version number 222.26.1 and brings along newer functions to original Moto X handsets.

Until the roll-out of the latest Android 5.1, the Moto X 2013 ran the now outdated Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) operating platform out of the box.

Newer enhancements and features offered by Android 5.1

  • Notifications and improvements: Blocks interruptions until the next alarm. You can choose to enter a scheduled downtime early. Add icons to the volume settings panel that match those that will show on the status bar. You can also alter notification volume controls while media is playing. With the volume controls showing, a tap on the bell icon will bring up notification volume controls.
  • Heads-up notifications: In addition to dismissing a heads-up notification, you can now swipe it up to remove it from your screen. It will remain in your notifications tray and you can dismiss it later.
  • Moto Assist and Downtime: Moto Assist integrates the new Downtime feature within Android Lollipop to control when you don't want to be disturbed. Moto Assist also now uses the new Interruptions settings so that you can customize exceptions, such as letting only people on your starred contacts list get through.
  • Quick notifications: You can quickly select different Wi-Fi access points or different paired Bluetooth devices with a new pull-down menu on each tile. Conditional settings tiles that only show if you use the feature - like Invert Colours or Hotspot - can now be hidden via a long-press on the tile.
  • Device protection feature: You can quickly select different Wi-Fi access points or different paired Bluetooth devices with a new pull-down menu on each tile. Conditional settings tiles that only show if you use the feature - like Invert Colours or Hotspot - can now be hidden.
  • New lockscreen: If you have enabled Ambient Display, the minimum swipe distance has increased to reduce accidental interactions.
