River Plate striker Teo Gutierrez is hopeful of securing a move to the Premier League after being flattered by interest from "important teams" amid reports linking him with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Colombian international has scored 10 goals in 12 league games this term and made four appearances during the World Cup finals in Brazil.

The 29-year-old has been heavily linked with moves to both Tottenham and Southampton of late and having been alerted to the possibility of moving to the Premier league Gutierrez says he is optimistic he can force through a switch to England.

"England would be very nice, they play fast and that makes it easier for strikers to score goals," he told Win Sports. "It's very good football, the elite, and anyone would like to play there. It's nice that important teams are interested. I hope it comes true."

Having improved his defence in vain during the summer transfer window, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino could look to add to the club's attacking options during the upcoming January transfer window with his team having netted just 14 goals in 11 league outings this term.

Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor have both misfired this season, scoring just four goals between them, while the latter is on the verge of leaving White Hart Lane after his scathing attack on the club's supporters following their reaction to the 2-1 defeat to Stoke City.

Youngster Harry Kane has netted nine times this season, including a hat-trick in the Europa League, but Pochettino is unwilling to trust him with regular first team opportunities having only started the England Under-21 forward once in the league this season.

After Kane scored the winner against Aston Villa a fortnight ago, Pochettino admitted: "He maybe deserves to play in the Premier League more.

"He is an important player. We have a lot of very good players. It is true the performance like in the last game and today, he maybe deserves to play in the Premier League more. It was a great goal, and a happy goal for him and the team.

"We are really happy with him because in every competition he has scored, his display was good and the three points are very important for us."
