Tube travel chaos: Northern line suspended after fires at Embankment and Warren Street

Commuters face cancellations and severe delays on the Northern Line as emergency services respond to fire alerts at two underground stations. Embankment and Warren Street were both closed on Monday morning (16 May) as fire crews attended separate incidents.

There is currently no service between Camden Town and Kennington southbound via Charing Cross. There is a good service on the rest of the line.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) was called at 5.51am after a small cable fire broke out on the track at Embankment station. The LFB says the fire has been extinguished but the station's Northern Line remains closed as engineers check the damage.

Warren Street was also closed on Monday morning due to what Transport for London (TfL) called a "fire alert". The station's Victoria Line and northbound Northern Line are now operating, with the southbound Northern Line still part suspended.
