A jogger has died after he fell from a grass verge and was hit by an oncoming lorry. Jan Kroll, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering serious head injuries in the accident on Wigan Road in Bamber Bridge, near Preston, Lancashire.

He had been running on the grass verge when the incident happened just before 7pm on Wednesday (3 December) near the junction with Shady Lane. Police say they believe he fell into the road, Sky News reports.

Sergeant John Jennings-Wharton said: "This is a tragic incident where a man has sadly lost his life. We are trying to establish exactly how this collision occurred and I would appeal to anyone who may have seen a jogger in the area around the time of the accident to contact us."
