Usher has moved to quell rumours of a feud with Justin Bieber following reports of a heated confrontation at an Oscars after-party in Los Angeles. Da Brat said on the Monday, 23 March episode of The Rickey Smiley Morning Show that the singer described the incident as an 'exaggeration of conversation.'

The story gained traction after reports suggested Usher and Bieber shared a tense moment at an Oscars after-party hosted by Beyoncé and Jay-Z, with some accounts hinting at a more explosive clash. That narrative is now being questioned, as Da Brat says the singer described the incident as far less dramatic, and nothing beyond a conversation has been confirmed.

Feud Claims Meet a Public Pushback

Da Brat said she had spoken to Usher directly and relayed his message in unusually plain terms. 'He's been nothing but supportive of plenty of issues that Justin Bieber has had throughout the years,' she said, before adding that people could 'actively check the records for all that.' It was a pointed rebuttal, and not an especially subtle one.

She went further by describing Bieber as being 'on his own journey, dealing with his own reality he's created,' while insisting there was no bad blood between the pair. According to her account, Usher 'wishes him nothing but the best' and there is 'no hostility' between them.

In celebrity rows, that sort of language usually means one thing. Somebody wants the temperature lowered, quickly.

Da Brat also confirmed that the two men did in fact speak at the event, which matters because it narrows the dispute to interpretation rather than basic fact. Her version was that 'somebody heard the conversation' and then the story was twisted into something bigger than it was.

Why Feud Rumour Took Hold

Part of the reason the allegation stuck is that there was already a backstory for people to reach for. One insider quoted in earlier reporting claimed the tension did not begin that night and had been 'simmering for a long time,' tying it to Bieber's early years in the industry and his connection to Sean 'Diddy' Combs, whom Usher introduced him to when Bieber was younger.

The Oscars exchange was framed as something older, messier and more personal than a single awkward encounter at a party. The report also folded in Combs' legal downfall, noting that he was sentenced to 50 months in jail in 2025 on prostitution charges.

That detail gives the wider narrative a grim edge, but it does not by itself prove anything about what passed between Usher and Bieber at the party. It does, though, help explain why whispers around the pair have sounded heavier than ordinary awards-season gossip.

Another factor driving the rumour is the long public history between Usher and Bieber. Earlier reports had primed audiences to read tension into their interactions, including claims that Bieber skipped Usher's 2024 Super Bowl halftime show and later unfollowed him online. Once such a narrative takes hold, every glance can be interpreted as fallout and every conversation as a reckoning.

What can be stated with confidence is more limited. Da Brat says Usher told her the confrontation story was exaggerated. She confirms the men spoke, that no hostility exists between them, and that the exchange has been taken out of context.

Competing reports, based on unnamed sources, suggest a far more strained encounter and even imply that Bieber may be 'closing that chapter for good.'
