The official poster of The Walking Dead season 5 midseason premiere AMC

Much has been said about Daryl Dixon and his sexuality since the beginning of the Walking Dead season 5. The speculation was clarified when show creator Robert Kirkman revealed that the crossbow warrior is indeed straight.

However, there is a gay character in the graphic upcoming book created by Kirkman, and fans were expecting the character to get introduced in the post apocalypse zombie horror drama.

Ross Marquand, has reportedly joined the AMC hit series for a mystery role and Entertainment Weekly suspects that he will play the character of Aaron.

Aaron was a gay character and first appeared in issue #67 of the Kirkman written comic book.

According to the website, Aaron meets Rick Grimes and group on the way to Washington DC and asks them to wall-off the community, the Alexandria safe-zone.

Meanwhile, the show creator had earlier hinted that "a very prominent gay character from the comics" will enter the show.

Kirkman had cleared the air about Daryl's sexuality and said, "In the letter column of the comic book that I do, I mentioned that there was a possibility early on about making Daryl Dixon's character gay...It caused quite a hubbub online and I just wanted to clarify that the possibility is there and that I would have been fine with it, the network would have been fine with it, but we ultimately didn't do that. I can make it official: Daryl Dixon is straight."

Fans will have to wait and watch how season 5 unfolds.

The Walking Dead season 5 returns to AMC on Sunday, 9 February.
