Kaegan Jude Solet Taken Into Custody in Houma Stabbing Investigation
Kaegan Jude Solet, 47, was taken into custody after four adults were found dead and a child critically wounded in Houma, Louisiana, but authorities had not announced formal charges in the latest update Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office

A 47-year-old Louisiana man has been taken into custody after four adults were found stabbed to death and a young child was critically wounded in two homes in Houma.

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office initially identified Kaegan Jude Solet as a person of interest on Saturday, 12 September 2026. Deputies detained him near the neighbourhood on Sunday morning following an overnight search.

The sheriff's office subsequently described Solet as a suspect in the killings. However, authorities had not announced formal charges by the latest official update, and taking someone into custody does not establish criminal guilt.

Who Is Kaegan Jude Solet?

Solet is a 47-year-old resident of Houma, a city in Terrebonne Parish approximately 60 miles south-west of New Orleans.

Authorities have released limited verified information about his personal life, occupation or possible relationship to the victims. Investigators have also not disclosed a suspected motive for the attacks.

Solet was previously prosecuted in an unrelated attempted second-degree murder case arising from a 2019 motel stabbing. A jury acquitted him in November 2023. That earlier allegation did not result in a conviction and is separate from the current investigation.

What Happened on Ashland Drive?

Deputies were called to the 200 block of Ashland Drive on Saturday night after a wounded child reached a neighbouring home.

The juvenile had suffered serious stab wounds and was transported by Acadian Ambulance Service Air Med to a hospital outside the area. The child remained in critical condition in the latest official account.

As deputies searched the area, they discovered four adults dead inside two nearby homes. Authorities treated the properties as connected crime scenes while detectives gathered evidence and attempted to establish a timeline.

The names and ages of the four deceased victims were not immediately released by the sheriff's office. Officials also did not publicly confirm how the adults, the child and Solet were connected.

How Was Kaegan Jude Solet Taken Into Custody?

The sheriff's office circulated Solet's name and photograph while asking the public for information about his location. Officials stressed at that stage that identifying him as a person of interest did not amount to an arrest or criminal charge.

Sheriff Tim Soignet confirmed on Sunday that Solet had been taken into custody. Local authorities said he was located near the Ashland Drive neighbourhood, but they did not immediately disclose the exact circumstances of the detention.

Investigators continued processing the two homes after the arrest. The sheriff's office described the case as Terrebonne Parish's first quadruple-homicide investigation.

What Happens Next?

Detectives are working to establish the sequence of events, determine the relationships among those affected and identify a possible motive.

The sheriff's office said detectives were continuing to gather evidence and develop information surrounding the incidents. Additional information would be released when available.

Solet remains in custody while the investigation continues. He has not been convicted in connection with the deaths, and any criminal allegations must be proved in court.
