A Colombian TikTok influencer known for exposing immigration raids was violently pulled from her car by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Los Angeles, in a confrontation that unfolded live on social media.

Leidy Tatiana Mafla-Martinez, 26, fainted during the clash and was rushed to the hospital before being transferred to an ICE detention centre.

The shocking footage, which quickly went viral, has sparked fury online and ignited debate over the rights of migrants and the heavy-handed tactics of immigration officers.

Who Is Tatiana Martinez?

Tatiana Martinez, better known to her 37,000 TikTok followers as @tatianamartinez_02, has built her online presence by documenting raids carried out by ICE.

Posting primarily in Spanish, she has utilised her platform to highlight the experiences of immigrants in California since the Trump administration took office. Her videos have previously addressed sensitive subjects, including federal crackdowns, political controversies, and local law enforcement actions.

Her TikTok account has featured recent content on the federal takeover of Washington, DC, Elon Musk, and the latest rounds of ICE arrests in the city. It is also worth noting that her immigration status has not been publicly disclosed.

According to a report from the Hindustan Times, far-right social media accounts have accused Martinez of doxing ICE agents and tipping off protestors about their locations during widespread demonstrations against immigration raids in Los Angeles.

The Shocking Arrest Caught on Video

While live on social media, Martinez was taken into custody by ICE officers on Friday in Los Angeles as she recorded from inside her Tesla.

As agents ordered her to get out of the car, she repeatedly shrieked 'no, no, no' and cried out 'wait, wait' in Spanish. During her arrest, Martinez reported experiencing shortness of breath.

The arrest triggered an avalanche of criticism across various platforms, including TikTok, X, and Reddit. One user wrote: 'Disgusting', and many argued Martinez was targeted for her activism and visibility, raising questions about whether ICE is cracking down on migrant voices amplified through social media.

Supporters, meanwhile, praised ICE for enforcing the law, pointing to her criminal conviction and undocumented status. This polarised reaction has placed Martinez at the centre of a heated national conversation.

ICE and DHS Respond

The Department of Homeland Security confirmed the arrest, stating Martinez is a 'criminal illegal alien from Colombia' who entered the US in 2022 and was later convicted of drink-driving in Los Angeles.

'On August 15, ICE arrested Leidy Tatiana Mafla-Martinez, a criminal illegal alien from Colombia who was convicted for driving under the influence in Los Angeles,' Assistant DHS Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement to the Daily Mail.

'This criminal illegal alien entered the country in 2022 and was RELEASED by the Biden administration.' Additional footage from the arrest showed officers had to physically lift Martinez from her electric vehicle and take her into custody as she struggled on the ground.

'During her arrest, Martinez claimed to experience shortness of breath. She was given proper medical treatment and will be held in ICE custody pending removal proceedings,' McLaughlin said.

Onlookers Interfere With the Arrest

The chaotic scene intensified when bystanders attempted to intervene. According to the Department of Homeland Security, onlookers tried to interfere with the arrest, with one individual even towing away a government vehicle.

'During the arrest, an individual unlawfully towed a government police vehicle. He mocked and videotaped ICE officers chasing after him,' McLaughlin said. 'Secretary Noem has been clear: Anyone who seeks to impede law enforcement will be found and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.'

New Wave of ICE Arrests Sweeps California

Martinez's arrest is part of a larger ICE raid sweep across Los Angeles. Just days earlier, agents arrested workers outside Home Depot stores and at small businesses, in what ICE dubbed 'Operation Trojan Horse'. Local reports confirm several arrests at car washes, street-vendor stands, and even in parking lots.

Photos published by the Associated Press on Saturday showed a woman being arrested while she was selling food outside a Los Angeles Home Depot. ICE agents also apprehended a worker at a car wash in Montebello, California.

The spate of operations underscores a heightened enforcement drive across California, reigniting tensions in immigrant communities already on edge.

Why This Case Resonates

At its core, Martinez's arrest underscores a growing clash between law enforcement and digital activism. Her livestreamed encounter turned a local arrest into an international talking point, raising fresh concerns about free speech, migrant rights, and the accountability of agencies operating in public view. Whether her case becomes a landmark moment in the immigration debate remains to be seen, but for now, the images of her being dragged out of her car have cemented her story in the public consciousness.
