The public was expecting some big names in the unsealed Jeffrey Epstein documents, like Donald Trump and ex-Prince Andrew. Surprisingly, aside from the wealthy and powerful men, many A-list celebrities were also mentioned in the Epstein files.

Former One Direction member Zayn Malik, singer-songwriter Stevie Wonder, and Sense and Sensibility star Emma Thompson were also named in the controversial documents. The mere appearance of a celebrity's name within the unsealed Epstein files is usually enough to ignite a digital firestorm and permanent reputational damage, but the mention of the three celebrities is about to change that.

Celebrating Celebrity Principles in Epstein Files

A viral TikTok post has sparked a significant shift in public perception of the latest disclosures from the Epstein files. Legal commentator Haseeb, via his @haseeblegal account, noted that having your name mentioned in the Epstein files 'might not actually be such a bad thing.'

He urged viewers to move away from the prejudice equating the names in the document to being 'immediate predator[s].' The TikTok video underscores that some names were captured in the documents not because they interacted with Epstein, but because they were subjects of media interest he collected.

Haseeb argued that Zayn Malik was named for something that 'we should applaud him for.' He also acknowledged the other celebrities who were considered anti-Israel and whose names appeared in the Epstein files, including Penelope Cruz, Stevie Wonder, and Emma Thompson.

This perspective suggests that being on the radar of such a figure was occasionally a byproduct of being a vocal and influential activist.

Anti-Israel Celebrities

The celebrities were mentioned in a correspondence with Epstein after the latter received a pre-publication email from the Jewish News Syndicate in 2014. It included a list of popular figures with 'anti-Israel' views.

Malik showed his support for Palestine by 'posting the hashtag #FreePalestine on his Twitter amid the current conflict between Israel and llamas. Unlike singer Rihanna, who also posted the hashtag and then deleted it.'

'Malik kept his post online, garnering nearly 200,000 retweets,' the article read (via Unilad).

Thompson also made it into the list after she called to boycott the performance of Israel's Habima Theatre troupe in a six-week theatrical festival at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London in 2014. Thompson and her allies accused Habima of having a 'a shameful record of involvement with illegal Israeli settlements in Occupied Palestinian Territory [sic].'

The 'I Just Called to Say I Love You' singer was also mentioned in the Epstein files after he decided to cancel his performance at Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF) gala in Los Angeles in 2012. Wonder reportedly came to the decision following a UN recommendation to not participate in the event.

The email was reportedly sent to Epstein in the heat of the 2014 Israel-Gaza War that killed thousands of Palestinians. Epstein was an Israel supporter and the email sent to him claimed the aforementioned celebrities were making 'false accusations' about Israel and 'justifying the actions of the terrorist group Hamas.'

Dismantling The Prejudice Of Guilt By Association

There is a deep-seated prejudice when names are mentioned in the Epstein files, primarily because of the late sex offender's record. The public has been conditioned to associate the names with sexual deviance due to their connection to Epstein.

Oftentimes, the stigma ignores the context of the mention, whether it be a witness, a victim, or, in this case, a person of interest in a news clipping.

The immediate branding of these celebrities as suspicious demonstrates the dangers of modern cancel culture and the lack of nuance in digital reporting. The latest unsealed documents serve as a reminder that Epstein's reach encompassed extensive information-gathering that did not always imply a personal relationship.

For these celebrities, the mention is a legal nuance that actually highlights their consistent advocacy and political courage. Instead of a scandal, the files have inadvertently archived a moment of celebrity activism that many of their fans continue to support.
