A cancer-stricken woman has shocked viewers in the United States by revealing that she drinks, bathes and uses her own urine to brush her teeth.

The 53-year-old, known as Carrie, appeared on the preview of the TLC's show My Strange Addiction to make the disclosure about her unusual lifestyle choice.

In the footage, she can also be seen using it as lotion, pouring it on her hair and even rinsing her eyes with it.

TMZ reported that she has been drinking her own urine for four years and swears by its healing properties, downing about 80 ounces a day.

Despite being diagnosed with cancer, she has not seen a doctor in six years.

Carrie, who appears in the show's finale which airs on 18 March, believes urine therapy has helped control her cancer and that she is now in remission.

"Since I have started doing urine therapy, I have seen an increase in energy and my joints and muscles feel strong."

Admittedly, however, she has noticed a strange mole on her back that changes daily from dark to light, although she is not sure if it is cancerous.

Not everyone in her family understands her addiction.

Daughter Brenda voiced her concerns: "She is her own doctor and that bothers me. I wish she would at least have someone tell her it's OK. It scares me, I don't want to lose my mum."
