The cast list for xXx: The Return of Xander Cage just keeps on growing. Latest additions to the sequel have been announced, confirming Asian stars Donnie Yen and Kris Wu are joining Vin Diesel on screen as he reprises his role as titular character Cage.

Hong Kong actor Yen is best known for his role in the Ip Man movie franchise and also appeared alongside Wesley Snipes in the 2002 horror-action film Blade II. Before he will be seen in xXx 3, he will star in eagerly-anticipated pictures Rogue One: A Star Wars Story with Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen and Forest Whitaker, and in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny.

Meanwhile, Chinese actor Wu's participation in the movie was announced by Paramount Pictures yesterday (16 February), reports The Wrap. xXx 3 will mark Wu's first outing in a US-made movie. He will soon also be seen on the big-screen in Luc Besson's upcoming sci-fi adventure Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets opposite Cara Delevingne, Dane DeHaan and Clive Owen.

The first movie detailed how Cage, an extreme sports athlete, is recruited by the US government to take part in a special mission. This task sees him gathering intelligence on an organisation that they suspect is planning on destroying the world. The follow-up will pick up where the first instalment left off, with Cage left for dead.

The screenplay has been written by Terminator Salvation's John D Brancato and Michael Ferris, with DJ Caruso (Disturbia) directing. As well as Diesel, The Vampire Diaries' Nina Dobrev, Toni Collette, Orange Is The New Black's Ruby Rose, Bollywood star Deepika Padukone and Hollywood legend Samuel L Jackson all set to feature. It has also been rumoured that rapper-turned-actor Ice Cube will reprise his role as Darius Stone from the 2005 sequel.

Production on the project began in late January in Toronto, Canada, ahead of its scheduled release date sometime in 2017.
