Guillermo Rodriguez has put on 10 pounds despite training up to 15 hours a week for Dancing With The Stars, leaving Jimmy Kimmel to tell his longtime sidekick he is 'achieving the impossible'.

The 55-year-old Jimmy Kimmel Live! favourite revealed the unexpected gain during Tuesday's episode of Kimmel's late-night show, saying he has been dancing for around three hours a day, five days a week, ahead of his DWTS debut.

Rather than losing weight from the rehearsals, Rodriguez admitted that his post-practice hunger has sent him straight to the dinner table. 'After the practice, I go eat right away. I'm so hungry,' he explained.

Three Hours of Dancing a Day

During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Rodriguez explained that rehearsals have been intense, with the television personality spending around three hours dancing each weekday. Kimmel pointed out that contestants on Dancing With The Stars typically undergo demanding training schedules and often become noticeably fitter during the process.

'Have you lost any weight at all?' Kimmel asked. 'Oh, unfortunately not,' Rodriguez replied. The answer appeared to surprise Kimmel, who noted that Rodriguez had been dancing for several hours a day, five days a week. But Rodriguez had a straightforward explanation for the unusual outcome.

He said that after finishing his rehearsals, he immediately goes to eat because he is extremely hungry. That post-training appetite, rather than the dance workouts themselves, appears to have been responsible for cancelling out the calories burned in the studio.

'I Gained 10 Pounds'

Kimmel then suggested that Rodriguez had not simply failed to lose weight but appeared to have put on even more since the two had last discussed his progress. Rodriguez confirmed the host's observation, revealing that he had gained about 10 pounds.

The exchange became another opportunity for Kimmel to tease his colleague, whose unexpected weight gain has become one of the lighter storylines surrounding his DWTS preparation.

Rodriguez has approached the competition with a similarly humorous attitude from the beginning.

When his casting was announced earlier this year, Kimmel joked that Rodriguez would become the first parking-lot security guard to dance with the stars.

Rodriguez even joked at the time that if he lost five pounds, he would gain 10 back immediately. His latest revelation suggests that prediction may have been more accurate than either man expected.

From Kimmel's Sidekick to Ballroom Contestant

The television personality has been part of Jimmy Kimmel Live! for years after originally working as a security guard at the show's Hollywood studio. He eventually became one of Kimmel's best-known sidekicks and a recurring presence across the programme's comedy segments.

His DWTS partnership with Witney Carson gives him an experienced professional dancer in his corner. Carson is a two-time champion and has reached the finals multiple times, making her one of the show's most accomplished professionals.

The Real Test Is Still Ahead

Despite the jokes about his weight, Rodriguez faces a challenge when the competition begins. Season 35 of Dancing With The Stars is scheduled to premiere over two nights on September 15 and 16, with the new cast preparing to compete for the Mirrorball Trophy.

For Rodriguez, the goal will now be to turn weeks of rehearsals into a performance capable of winning over the judges and viewers. And while most contestants might hope their training produces a slimmer waistline, Rodriguez has already managed something more unusual: spending hours dancing every day and coming out 10 pounds heavier.
