Nancy Guthrie is in Sound Mind And WIll Not Wonder Off Due to Mobility Issue

Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of TODAY co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, has been reported missing in Arizona under 'suspicious circumstances.'
After she disappeared from her Tucson home over the weekend, the Pima County Sheriff's Department escalated the case to a criminal investigation, stating they believe she was abducted and 'dragged' out of bed in the middle of the night.

As authorities continue to search for leads, we are looking back at five photos of Savannah and her mother while the community prays for Nancy's safe return.
Nancy Guthrie Missing, Believed to be 'Dragged' Out of Bed
84-year-old Nancy was last seen at her home in Catalina Foothills in Tucson, Arizona, on Saturday, 31 January 2026, at around 9:30 p.m. local time.
Nancy's family was alerted when she failed to attend church on Sunday morning. Nancy's family grew concerned and went to her home to check on her; however, she was nowhere to be found, prompting a 911 call.

As reported by PEOPLE, two days after the initial missing person report, the Pima County Sheriff's Department confirmed they believe Nancy was abducted. The investigation has since been escalated, with her home now being treated as a formal crime scene.
Pima County Sheriff Nanos said, 'We saw some things at the home that were concerning to us,'
'We believe now after we've processed that crime scene that we do in fact have a crime scene, that we do in fact have a crime, and we're asking the community's help.'

The Sheriff further noted that investigators believe Nancy was taken from her bed in the middle of the night.
'At this point, investigators believe she was taken from the home against her will, possibly in the middle of the night. Taken against her will includes possible kidnapping or abduction,' he said.
Sheriff Nano added, 'I believe she was abducted, yes. She didn't walk from there. She didn't go willingly.'
Nancy's personal items, such as her phone, wallet, and car, were all still at her home when police began looking for her, and detectives searched her property.
Nancy Guthrie is in 'Sound Mind' but has Mobility Issues
During the media conference, Sheriff Nanos emphasised that Nancy does not have any cognitive issues, such as dementia, but rather has mobility issues and could not have wandered off on her own.
'I want to stress to you, and it is really important: Miss Guthrie, Nancy Guthrie is of great sound mind," Nanos told the media. 'This is not a dementia-related, she is as sharp as a tack. The family wants everybody to know this isn't somebody who just wandered off.'
He added, 'She's very alert, of good, sound mind, just some physical ailments that limit her ability to move around.'
Nanos said she lived by herself, and that the family told him 'she couldn't walk 50 yards. And so we know she couldn't get far from that home unless she was removed from that home.'
Clock's Ticking
Inside Edition reported that Nancy needs a life-saving medication, which is why authorities are doing everything they can to find her before it's too late.
The sheriff said, 'The clock is literally ticking. It's been 24 hours plus that have passed, and we were told that if she didn't get her meds, it can be fatal.'
Savannah Guthrie's Statement
On Monday, Savannah was absent from the episode of TODAY following the disappearance of her mother. Still, she provided a statement on the show about this dark chapter of their life.
