Amazing Spider-Man 2

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game has been delayed – possibly even cancelled – on Microsoft's next gen console Xbox One.

NeoGAF spotted that all mentions of the Xbox One version had been removed from the Activision-published game's official site.

The game will still be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS on 2 May.

An Activision release schedule update stated: "We want to inform you that we are revising our release plans for ASM2 on Xbox One. When and whether ASM2 is released on Xbox One is TBD."

Clearly the state of the game is up in the air at the moment, but Activision even hinting that it may be cancelled is a sign that it's a very strong possibility.

As for why, well clearly the Xbox One version has proved difficult to develop and isn't ready for release. That, or something catastrophic has happened during the development of that version which had caused a delay.

The reason for the delay won't be known for some time, but should the game be cancelled people will demand answers – specifically if the reason is inherent to developing for the console.
