Amazon UK's £40bn Investment Plan: New Fulfilment Centres to Create Thousands of Jobs
The announcement followed the publication of the UK's Industrial Strategy.

Amazon has unveiled a £40 billion ($50.6 billion) investment package in the United Kingdom, marking one of the largest commitments by a tech company in recent years.
Approved on Tuesday, 24 June 2025, the plan will see the construction of new fulfilment centres, transport infrastructure upgrades, and corporate expansion — a move Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has hailed as a 'massive vote of confidence' in the UK economy.
The investment is expected to create tens of thousands of jobs and significantly boost regional development across the country, reinforcing Amazon's position as a major contributor to Britain's post-Brexit growth ambitions.
Government Welcomes Major Investment Boost
In an official press release, the UK government confirmed that Amazon will roll out the £40 billion ($50.6 billion) investment over the next three years. The announcement follows the launch of Industrial Strategy: a 10-year plan, which aims to revitalise British industries and stimulate business investment nationwide.
'This is a massive vote of confidence in the UK as the best place to do business,' said Prime Minister Starmer via Sky News. 'It means thousands of new jobs – real opportunities for people in every corner of the country to build careers, learn new skills, and support their families.'
Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves echoed the sentiment, calling the deal 'a powerful endorsement of Britain's economic strengths.'
She added that the government would continue working closely with Amazon and other key firms to create long-term employment and wealth across the UK.
Four New Fulfilment Centres Coming Soon
As part of the investment strategy, Amazon will construct four new fulfilment centres. Two will be located in the East Midlands, with projected openings in 2027, although exact locations have yet to be confirmed. The other two are planned for Hull and Northampton, expected to open in 2026.
Amazon's corporate headquarters in East London will also undergo a significant upgrade, which includes the development of new office spaces, delivery stations, and improved logistics networks. The redevelopment of Bray Film Studios, which Amazon acquired in 2024, will also be funded under the same initiative.
Thousands of Job Opportunities Across the UK
Amazon currently employs over 75,000 people across more than 100 facilities in the UK. In 2025 alone, the company has introduced 1,000 full-time apprenticeship roles.
Each of the new fulfilment centres in Hull and Northampton is expected to create at least 2,000 jobs. The government said the expansion will strengthen Amazon's role in supporting local economies while offering long-term career development.
Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds is set to visit Amazon's London HQ to formally announce the initiative. He will also meet with current Amazon apprentices to discuss the importance of British talent and skills in fuelling continued economic growth.
