If you are an owner of the Samsung Galaxy S4 having subscribed to AT&T's carrier wireless service, there is good for you.

AT&T has officially issued a confirmation about rolling out Google's Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS upgrade for users of Samsung's Galaxy S4 high-end smartphones, thus bringing an end to user frustration about not having received the KitKat update.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 originally ran the now legacy Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating platform; out of the box, which was then upgraded to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

The latest update will be available to your AT&T devices via the over-the-air (OTA) mechanism, and the file size will be between 392 MB to 488 MB depending on your current Android OS version.

What's new in Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS update?

Android KitKat for the high-end Samsung Galaxy S4 adds new applications such as:

  • Keeper
  • Mail
  • Live
  • Uber
  • Remote Support
  • Device Help

However, the biggest addition to Samsung Galaxy S4, with the incorporation of Android 4.4.4 is the support for Samsung Knox 2.0.

Then, there are the regular bug fixes and stability/performance enhancements.

Even though the latest Android KitKat update does not promise extraordinarily new features, the update does signify that Android 5.0 (Lollipop) OS upgrade is around the corner, and you can expect your devices to get it comparatively faster (than earlier versions).

New rumours hint at an early 2015 release of Android 5.0, for the Galaxy S4.
