Overview

Angelique Kerber is having a season to remember as she prepares for her third Grand Slam final of the year. The German, who will be crowned the new world number 1 when the rankings are released, is the reigning Australian Open champion and also made the finals of Wimbledon, which she lost to Serena Williams.

Apart from her success on the pro-tour, she also made the finals in the tennis event at this summer's Olympic Games at Rio. However, she had to settle for a silver medal after falling to Monica Puig in the summit clash. Kerber will be keen to bring in her reign as the top women's player in the world with the title at Flushing Meadows, but will have a tough task against Karolina Pliskova.

The Czech Republic star overcame Serena Williams in the semi-finals and will be high on confidence going into the game against the German. She also beat the older Williams, Venus, on her way to the finals. Pliskova has thus far failed to progress beyond the third round at a Grand Slam in her career, and therefore will feel the pressure much more than her opponent.

However, she has a good record against Kerber and won their most recent encounter, which was in the finals of the Cincinnati Masters in August.

Betting Odds (Betfair)

Karolina Pliskova – 8/5
