Arsenal have been encouraged in their pursuit of Jefferson Montero after the winger confirmed that he has received a summer bid from a European club.

The 24-year-old is currently plying his trade with Mexican club Monarcas Morelia. The Express claims the Ecuadorian international has been a target for the Gunners in the summer transfer window.

Arsene Wenger is in the transfer market to bolster his attacking options and is looking to add pace on the wings. The Gunners do not have any out and out wingers apart from Theo Walcott to run behind the opposition defense.

Arsenal have been linked to a few wide players earlier in the summer transfer window, with Real Sociedad's Antoine Greizmann and Fiorentina's Juan Caudrado being the frequently mentioned names.

After some impressive performances for his country, Montero has garnered attention of some European clubs and Arsenal seems to be one of them. The Ecuadorian winger has confirmed that there has been a bid and that his club is working on the same.

"It's certain that I'll leave the league, but let's see where I'll go. We expect to sort it out within the next few days," Montero said, as quoted in the Express.

"I already have an offer, the club are handling it. Let's see where I'll go but for now I have some days off.

"I can tell you that it won't be Mexico. It will be Europe and thank God we are working on it, I hope it works out," Montero added.

He is looking forward to leaving Mexico and playing at a higher level in a European league.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have announced the list players, who will be released, once their contracts expire on June 30. A total of 11 players will be leaving the club over the summer.

The list includes Bacary Sagna and Lukasz Fabianski who have left to join Premier League rivals Manchester City and Swansea City, respectively. Nicklas Bendtner has been released after spending nine years at the club, and loan signings Kim Kallstrom and Emiliano Viviano have returned to their parent clubs.
