Bryan Mbeumo to Man Utd, the Club of His Dreams, After Uncertainty
The long transfer saga ends as Mbeumo joins Manchester United in a £71m deal

Bryan Mbeumo has officially signed with Manchester United in a transfer worth £71 million, concluding a protracted summer pursuit that included failed bids, stalled negotiations and escalating demands from Brentford. The 25-year-old Cameroon international, who scored 20 Premier League goals last season, has now joined what he called 'the club of my dreams'.
The deal includes an initial £65 million fee with £6 million in add-ons. Mbeumo has signed a five-year contract at Old Trafford, and is expected to join the team immediately as they begin their pre-season tour of the United States.
Weeks of Back-and-Forth Negotiations
Manchester United made their first formal approach in early June, offering £55 million for Mbeumo. A second offer of £62.5 million was also rejected, before the club finally reached Brentford's valuation in their third attempt. According to The Guardian, Brentford's shifting led to frustrations behind the scenes at United, with some insiders accusing the London club of moving the figures further during the talks.
Reports from ESPN also suggest that United offered Mbeumo a highly competitive wage early on to secure his interest, hoping that the player's desire to move would eventually tip the deal in their favour.
And it worked. Mbeumo communicated his strong desire to join United and was willing to wait through the standoff. 'As soon as I knew there was a chance to join Manchester United, I had to take the opportunity to sign for the club of my dreams', he said after completing the move.
Thank you for everything. 🤍

Filling a Critical Gap in Attack
United are rebuilding their squad after finishing 15th in the Premier League last season. This was their lowest position in the modern era. With only 44 goals scored across 38 games, the team's attack was a primary concern post-season heading into the summer.
The arrival of Bryan Mbeumo, alongside fellow forward Matheus Cunha, is meant to correct this. According to BBC Sport, Mbeumo's 20-goal haul last season, which outperformed his expected goals by 7.7, is a major attraction. His versatility in playing both wide and centrally gives manager Ruben Amorim new tactical options.
Mbeumo's seven assists and a league-leading expected assists figure of 9.3 last season also suggest that he can both finish and create opportunities. Amorim is reportedly reshaping the attacking unit, with Marcus Rashford set for a loan move to Barcelona and other forwards including Jadon Sancho and Antony potentially exiting.
Mbeumo's Journey and Ambition
The transfer is not just a career move, as it is a personal one for Mbeumo. He has revealed that he wore Manchester United shirts growing up and always dreamed of playing at Old Trafford. His statement to BBC's live blog echoed his emotional connection to the club: 'My mentality is to always be better than I was yesterday. I know I have the spirit and character to reach another level here'.
He joins United after a standout spell at Brentford, where he scored 70 goals and recorded 51 assists in 242 appearances since arriving from French side Troyes in 2019.
United director of football Jason Wilcox praised the signing, saying, 'Bryan's belief in our project and determination to join the club confirmed that he was the perfect fit for Manchester United and the culture that we are developing'.

What's Next for United and Bryan Mbeumo?
With a key piece of their summer rebuild now in place, United's focus may turn to whether they need another central striker. While Mbeumo and Cunha bring firepower, questions remain over whether Rasmus Højlund, who scored just four league goals last season, is the answer up front.
But for now, the signing of Bryan Mbeumo signals a turning point for Manchester United. A troubled summer has given way to cautious optimism, and one of the Premier League's most productive forwards now has the chance to realise his potential on one of the game's biggest stages.
