Big Brother has introduced content creator Tays as an undercover housemate for its 2026 series, with the streamer tasked with convincing the other contestants that he is a genuine participant.

Tays, whose real name is Michael Taylor, entered the house during Sunday night's live launch after spending 24 hours there as part of The Bov Boys' pre-series takeover. He will carry out secret missions for Big Brother while attempting to keep his role hidden from the other housemates.

The twist has prompted mixed reactions online, with some viewers welcoming the creator-led addition while others have questioned its place in the programme. One critic wrote that 'nobody wants this', arguing that 'the whole point of Big Brother is real people, not tiresome influencers'. The twist follows ITV's decision to give The Bov Boys access to the house before the official series began.

Tays Given Secret Big Brother Missions

Tays is a member of Manchester-based content collective The Bov Boys, alongside I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! winner Angry Ginge, Jakey Davies and Chazza.

The group took over the Big Brother house from midday on Saturday, 12 September, alongside creators including Adeola Patronne, Mariam Musa, Shauna Games, Scouse Mali and Pieface. The event was streamed live on Twitch and YouTube as the house was tested ahead of the main series.

At the end of the takeover, Big Brother revealed that one member would remain in the house for another week as a mole. Tays was selected and returned during Sunday's live launch. He must remain undetected until next Friday's live eviction.

Tays will also nominate three housemates to face the first public vote and secretly select another contestant to become his accomplice.

Fans React To Creator-Led Twist

The involvement of online creators has prompted discussion among viewers, with some criticism emerging before the official housemates entered.

Some fans questioned why ITV had provided continuous access to the house for the creator takeover, particularly as long-term viewers have called for greater live coverage of the main series. Others questioned the decision to involve influencers in the format.

The reaction has not been universally negative. Some viewers welcomed the collaboration and suggested the twist could introduce Big Brother to the creators' audiences. One fan described it as a 'genius twist', while another said they were looking forward to seeing how it played out.

The secret identity element has also prompted comparisons with previous reality TV twists. Some viewers linked Tays' role to Chantelle Houghton's 2006 Celebrity Big Brother storyline, when the civilian housemate was required to convince celebrity contestants that she was a famous singer.

The 2026 series launched on ITV2 and ITVX on Sunday, 13 September, with AJ Odudu and Will Best returning as hosts.

The creator takeover expanded Big Brother's online presence, giving viewers access to the house before the main series began and bringing established digital personalities into the programme.

ITV has also introduced Big Brother: The Group Chat, a companion programme hosted by former winner Kate Lawler and podcaster GK Barry, which is available after the main show on ITV2, ITVX and YouTube.
