British low-cost airline Monarch has launched its Black Friday sale, which includes discounts on city breaks, flights and holidays.

The retail extravaganza might not officially kick off until tomorrow (25 November), but a number of airlines have already started offering discounts. Earlier this week, Ryanair kicked off its Black Friday sale by putting 250,000 seats on sale from £9.99 – on one-way flights – on over 400 routes, while British Airways launched half-price return flights in business class on Thursday.

Luton-based Monarch has followed suit, offering 10,000 seats on one-way flights to a number of European destinations, including Rome, Barcelona, Lisbon, Madrid, Venice and Verona for £29. Flights depart from London Gatwick, London Luton Manchester, Birmingham and Leeds Bradford airports, although some airports do not serve all destinations.

Passengers will also be able to travel to the airline's three new destinations of Porto, Zagreb and Stockholm from April next year.

Meanwhile, Britons wishing to escape the winter blues can book one-way flights to the Canary Islands from £35. As is the case with city breaks, flights depart from London Luton, London Gatwick and terminals in Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham.

Monarch added the stipulation that passengers must travel between 1 January and 9 July next year, although the school holiday periods between 10 and 14 February, 31 March and 10 April and 26 and 31 May are not included in the offer.

Other offers include £30 off holiday packages to destinations such as Spain and Portugal, £60 off holidays to Lapland and £10 per person off all hotel-only bookings.
