The death of 26-year-old Brazilian influencer Derleya Alves has sparked an investigation into the risks of elective surgery after a routine procedure led to fatal internal complications.

Alves, a fitness personality and mother with over 20,000 followers, died on 28 February 2026, just eight days after undergoing breast augmentation surgery. While the influencer initially documented a positive recovery, her health rapidly declined due to severe abdominal pain that necessitated multiple emergency operations.

Authorities in Marabá are currently awaiting biopsy results to confirm if a rare, undiagnosed congenital condition made the surgery unsurvivable.

The Operation And Naive Expectations

Derleya Alves was known online as a fitness and lifestyle influencer who shared aspects of her life, including motherhood and personal goals, with her Instagram followers.

On 20 February, she went ahead with breast augmentation surgery that she had described as a long-held 'dream' to improve her confidence and meet her own beauty goals. Initially, things appeared to go as planned, and Alves even documented parts of her recovery journey online. She on 22 February shared a video of her mother helping her after the procedure, and she posted messages filled with optimism and prayer, expressing faith that her recovery would go smoothly.

However, within a short time of the procedure, Alves began experiencing intense abdominal pain and troubling symptoms that could not be ignored.

She was taken to Marabá Municipal Hospital, where medical staff conducted a series of tests to determine what was wrong.

As her condition deteriorated, surgeons performed two further operations in an attempt to save her life.

During these interventions, they repaired damage to her intestines and removed one of her ovaries.

Reports from sources suggest that a possible congenital intestinal abnormality may have contributed to the severity of her complications, although investigators stress that no medical malpractice is suspected at this time. Authorities are awaiting further laboratory results, including a biopsy expected in mid-March, to clarify the exact cause of her death.
